In the year 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Scheme at Uttar Pradesh Balai. Later, PM Ujjwala Yojana has expanded its legs to rest parts of India. With the scheme, the central government is looking to distribute around 5 crores free LPG Gas Connections in the name of women belong to BPL (Below Poverty Line).

The government is looking to complete the target of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in next three years. For making the scheme a success, the government has allotted a total budget of Rs. 8,000 crore to provide free gas connections.
