Laptop Bhagya – Free Laptop Scheme for Karnataka SC/ ST Students

“Laptop Bhagya” Free Laptop Scheme has been launched by the State Government of Karnataka to provide free laptops to SC/ST students of the state. Higher Education Department of the state will going to provide free laptops to SC/ST students pursuing higher education from the next year. For this Karnataka Free Laptop Scheme, govt. set a budget of Rs. 112 Crore.

Laptop Bhagya – Free Laptop Scheme

Under “Laptop Bhagya” Laptop Scheme, students belong to SC/ST community doing higher education in government colleges including engineering, polytechnics and degree colleges will get the benefit of the scheme. Authorities also informed that around 35000 SC/ST students are currently pursuing higher education in government colleges of Karnataka.

Eligibility of Laptop Bhagya – Free Laptop Scheme

• The Student should belong to SC/ST community.


• He/ she should be the first-year student in his/her course.


• Students studying in Government Colleges only get the benefit of the scheme.

Karnataka Government also informed that the free laptops given under the scheme will cost from Rs. 32,000 to Rs. 35,000. The state govt. soon will start inviting tenders of laptop companies for Laptop Bhagya Yojana.

Similarly, the Banglore University also offering Free Laptops to SC/ST students pursuing P.G course in the university. Moreover, under the Bangalore university scheme students need to return the laptops to college authorities after the completion of course.

While under Laptop Bhagya Free Laptop Scheme, beneficiaries of the scheme will not have to return the laptop. So this Free Laptop Yojana is surely very beneficial to SC/ST students of the students who cannot afford laptops.
